West Covina is a mid-sized city of about 16 square miles in Los Angeles County, California. Home to about 108,000 residents, the city is less than 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. I-10, the San Bernardino Freeway, runs through the northern part of the city, providing easy access to much of the East Los Angeles area. West Covina uses zip codes 91790 through 91793. West Covina’s largest employers are Citrus Valley Medical Center and West Covina Unified School District, each providing more than 1,300 jobs. The recently constructed West Covina Sportsplex is a massive, multi-purpose center with an 18-hole golf course and a sports park containing batting cages, playing fields, and baseball fields modeled after famous locations such as Fenway Park and Wrigley Field. The Sportsplex also contains a commercial retail area anchored by Target and Home Depot. An office park addition is still in development. West Covina is home to South Hills Country Club, and other nearby golf courses include Dwight D. Eisenhower Golf Course and Via Verde Country Club. For even more outdoor recreation, the city maintains more than a dozen public parks and facilities, and the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area and Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park are a short drive from the city.

Plaza West Covina is an indoor mall featuring more than 200 shops and restaurants, and an outdoor expansion is currently underway. The Eastland Center is anchored by Walmart and Target and features several large department stores. Smaller shopping centers featuring boutique retailers and a variety of restaurants include West Covina Village, HK2 Food District, and the Lakes at West Covina.
West Covina Neighborhood Schools
Most children of West Covina residents attend schools in the West Covina Unified School District, though some portions of the city are served by the Covina Valley and Rowland Unified School Districts. There are several highly-rated schools in West Covina. San Jose Charter Academy receives a perfect 10 of 10 rating from the school ranking website GreatSchools.org. Several other schools, including Merced Elementary School and Edgewood and West Covina High Schools, receive excellent ratings of eight or nine out of 10.
Private and parochial schools serving the area include South Hills Academy, West Covina Christian School, and Sacred Heart Catholic School. Nearby colleges and universities include Azusa Pacific University, Citrus College, Pasadena City College, and California State Polytechnic University’s Pomona campus.
