Paramount has long been a small town in terms of feel and population. The city was once called New Spain when it was settled in 1781. The economy here was long based on dairy and hay, though today it is much more modernized. The city has a strong Mexican heritage and outstanding cultural events that support this diversity. Various restaurants and retail sectors exist throughout it as well as various parks, playgrounds, and open green space.
The city also has direct access to I-105 and I-710. It is also a short distance to state Route 91. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority also provides bus service in the city.
