The real estate market in Lawndale is one of the more competitive in the region. This city, which is located only a matter of minutes from Downtown Los Angeles, remains an important commuter suburb. As of February of 2017, the median sale price of homes for sale in Lawndale was $480,000. This is about 7 percent higher in value than the same timeframe in 2016. From November of 2016 through February of 2017, about 21 homes sold in the community. As of the middle of February, there were 19 homes listed for sale. The land that is now the city was a part of a land grant given by the Spanish government in the 1780's. During those early years and beyond, the community was a prominent agricultural center. It was also an important railway center for the region. After World War Ii, the city, which had developed rapidly due to the railway system and local manufacturing, became more of a bedroom community. It was an important suburb of Los Angeles for many years.
The city has a number of key benefits to offer homeowners and residents here. Its top employers include the city itself, La Vida Medical Group, Top Valu Market, and American Drilling Company. The community remains small with few large businesses. It has a variety of smaller shopping centers and restaurants as well.
