It's easy to get around La Mirada, given the city's close proximity to major southern California freeways. Interstate-5 (the Santa Ana Freeway) passes through the west edge of town. In addition, three different public bus lines--Los Angeles Country Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Norwalk Transit and Montebello Bus Lines--provide service between La Mirada and other points in the city and throughout Los Angeles County. For trips further afield, Los Angeles International Airport and Anaheim's John Wayne Airport are less than an hour's drive away and offers non-stop service to hundreds of cities throughout North America and beyond.
La Mirada and Los Angeles are home to a number of festive annual events. These include the city's annual Olive Festival, the nearby La Habra Citrus Festival, Jurassic com and Knott's Boysenberry Festival in Buena Park.
There are also plenty of cultural activities in this part of southern California. La Mirada has a performing arts center that produces a full schedule of musical, dramatic and artistic events. The region is also home to the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center in Anaheim and the Buena Park Cultural Center.

School age residents in La Mirada attend the public schools of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. The district, which has an enrollment of around 12,000 students, owns and manages 28 schools--17 elementary schools, six middle schools, four high schools and a district adult school. In addition to the public schools, there are a number of private schools in the area. These include Heights Christian School, St. Paul of the Cross School and Beatitudes of Our Lord School. For post-secondary education, Southern California is home to numerous colleges and universities. Biola University, a private evangelical Christian university, is located directly in town. In addition, the region is home to the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC) and the California Institute of Technology.
