Costa Mesa housing market statistics: As of November 27, 2020 there are currently 161 properties for sale in Costa Mesa listed as active, with an average asking price of $1,032,592. The highest-priced property is $2,549,900; the lowest priced property can be purchased for $97,000. Costa Mesa neighbourhood listings have an average price of $562 per square foot, based on listings with 3.3 bedrooms, 2.9 baths, and 1,890 square feet of living space.

Costa Mesa Neighborhood Homes

Costa Mesa is a competitive real estate market. The reasons for this are numerous including the fact that it is an edge city, meaning it is rather close to area amenities, businesses, jobs, and schools. This makes it a highly desirable place to call home. As of December of 2016, Costa Mesa had about 125 homes for sale. This includes both resale and new construction. And, about 80 homes in the region are in some stage of pre-foreclosure or foreclosure. Foreclosure numbers are significantly improved from several years ago, but it is still possible to find a low-priced, attractive home priced right.

At that time, the median sale price of a home in Costa Mesa was about $715,000. This is also about $472 per square foot. Home prices in Costa Mesa are on their way up as well. Over the previous 12 months, home prices here rose about 4 percent. During that time, about 177 home sold. This shows the demand for quality homes here. The average price per square foot rose by 9 percent during the previous year.

While home prices in Costa Mesa are a bit higher than those in some nearby towns, when compared to rental costs in the city, they remain attractive. The average rent for a single-family home here is about $3,000. That helps to make buying a home an attractive opportunity.

Most of the homes in Costa Mesa are single family homes. Ranches, colonials, Victorians, and numerous custom homes exist here. Costa Mesa is a typical suburban area, though pockets of more rural areas exist. It has a large retail center, especially at South Coast Plaza, which is home to some 300 stores. It is one of the highest volume regional shopping centers in the United States. Each year, this shopping center generates more than $1 billion in sales.

The city also has a great deal of greenspace, parks, and playgrounds. It is home to 26 parks as well as a municipal golf course. The local recreation center sponsors community programs including youth and adult sports.

The city is home to 26 public schools to serve its citizens. This includes Costa Mesa High School and Estancia High School. There are two middle schools as well. It is also home to several private schools. Orange Coast College, National University, Whittier Law School, and Vanguard University are also present in Costa Mesa.
