Where many homes originally built in the 1920s were demolished 40 years later, homebuyers in Orange retained these historic homes and renovated them. City of Orange Community Amenities
With pleasant year-round weather, outdoor activities abound in Orange. The city maintains 22 parks, lakes, creeks, and memorials. Each park is filled with amenities like barbecue areas, playgrounds, sports fields and courts, skate parks, water features, shelters and picnic areas. Two public swimming pools and a fishing lake round out the city-sponsored outdoor recreation spots. However, the city does not hold the monopoly on outdoor recreation. Directly east from Orange sits the Irvine Regional Park, known for its Oak and Sycamore trees. This serene 475 acre park has a paved walking trail as well a three-mile equestrian loop. Its most popular attraction is the Irvine Railroad Park, offering a meandering 10 minute train ride throughout the landscape.
The city of Orange is also home to the state's second largest concentration of historic buildings, the most notable is The Orange Historic District, also known as Old Towne. This one square-mile area around the original town plaza still has many of the original buildings that were constructed when the city was founded in the 1800's. Home to Orange county's oldest operating bank and oldest operating soda fountain, Old Towne is listed on the national Register of Historic Places. With a variety of boutiques, restaurants, and historical markets Old Towne Orange is also home to the area's farmer's and artisanal market as well as its flea market and city-wide musical events.
Theme park enthusiasts will find Orange's location among the most desirable in the area. Orange's neighbor to the west, Anaheim is home to Disneyland and Disneyland California Adventure park with their accompanying features and amenities. A short 20 minute drive to Knotts Berry Farm gives Orange homeowners a chance to ride roller coasters to their heart's content. A 1 hour drive to the north will place a person at Universal Studios while a 1 and a half hour drive to the south will yield Sea World and the San Diego Zoo.
City of Orange Neighborhood Schools
Students in Orange will find themselves a part of the Orange Unified School District (OUSD). With 27 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, and 4 traditional high schools and 1 continuation high school as well as a variety of special programs, OUSD serves over 30,000 students.
Elementary and middle school students can choose to participate in a variety of public school options that meet their learning needs and styles. Orange is home to a science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) magnet school that begins in Kindergarten and continues through 8th grade. Middle school students can access a curriculum that teaches basic subjects with an arts emphasis or a tuition-free public school with a private school approach.
Each high school in the district offers enrichment opportunities such as International Baccalaureate (IB), Agriculture, and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) programs. Advanced Placement and Concurrent Enrollment programs as well as the OUSD Laptop program give students of all interest and income levels and opportunity to participate fully in all that the district has to offer.
