Best Dog Parks Near Reseda

The beautiful year-round weather in the San Fernando Valley means there's never a bad time to head out to one of the local dog parks. These parks are a great way to meet other pet owners and allow your pup some off-leash exercise and socializing. Check out three of the best options near Reseda.

Sepulveda Basin Off-Leash Dog Park

The Sepulveda Basin Off-Leash Dog Park is located in the neighboring Encino neighborhood to the southeast of Reseda. It's within walking distance for many residents who live near Victory Boulevard. This dog park has one area for large dogs, a separate area for small or timid dogs, and a third for dogs under 15 pounds. The small/timid dog run's surface is mostly dirt with a few grassy areas. The other two runs are mostly grass surfaces. The large run has some agility obstacles for the dogs to enjoy.

There are no drinking fountains, but the dog runs have waste baskets and doggy waste bags available. Other amenities include shade benches and picnic tables, although no food is allowed in the off-leash areas.

  • 17550 Victory Boulevard, Encino Avenue, Van Nuys, CA 91406
  • Open daily from sunrise to sunset
  • Closed Fridays from 6:00–11:00 a.m. for maintenance

Laurel Canyon Dog Park

Laurel Canyon Dog Park is about 13 miles southeast of Reseda and can sometimes take up to 25 minutes to make the drive there if traffic on the Ventura Freeway is heavy. Some celebrities venture out of their Los Angeles luxury homes in Laurel Canyon and Studio City—two of the most expensive neighborhoods in Los Angeles—to bring their dogs to this park. The three-acre, off-leash dog park has a dirt surface and separate areas for large and small dogs. This park has very little shade, and it can get hot during the summer months. The dirt surface also means that pets may need a bath after a visit here.

Sometimes Laurel Canyon Dog Park will be shut down without notice, especially if the area around Mulholland Drive sees heavy rainfall.

  • 8260 Mulholland Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90046
  • Open daily from sunrise to sunset
  • Closed Fridays from 6:00–11:00 a.m. for maintenance

Calabasas Bark Park

The Calabasas Bark Park is about a 20-minute drive to the west of Reseda in the city of Calabasas. This small park has three separate fenced sections for dogs, including two sections with wood-chip surfaces that are open every day. On the weekends, from Friday through Sunday, a third area with a grassy surface is open to provide additional space for visitors and their pets. This dog park features plenty of shaded benches and chairs for owners as their pups run around and play. The park also has a doggy drinking fountain.

Visitors should know that poisonous rattlesnakes are native to this area. While they usually don't come into the park, they may be present on the brushy hillside to the east.

  • 4232 Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas, CA 91302
  • Open daily from sunrise to 9:00 p.m.
  • Closed Thursdays from 7:00–10:00 a.m. for maintenance
