From tranquil morning jogs in Reseda's best parks to thrilling bike trails and community sports, there's no shortage of ways to connect with nature and stay fit. Have Some Fun at Reseda Park & Recreation Center

Reseda Park is a major asset to the Reseda community, and residents use it for everything from getting exercise to playing on the playground and taking classes at the rec center. At the park's heart is a large pond, where you'll frequently see people feeding the resident ducks and geese. Be careful, though, because they can be a bit food-aggressive!

The park's shaded playground has unique features, such as a sand pit and a small rock climbing structure. It's adjacent to tennis and basketball courts that are lit for nighttime play. There are also baseball/softball and soccer fields, and the park is home to several community leagues and teams. In addition, the park has a community pool. This unheated outdoor pool is open in the summer, and it typically closes for the year on Labor Day.

Aside from the park itself, the Reseda Recreation Center is a hub of activity in its own right. The center hosts various programs and classes for all ages and interests year-round. Some examples include after-school camps, martial arts classes, gymnastics, a teen club, roller hockey, and cooking classes. It also holds special events throughout the year, and members of the public can rent its facilities for private functions.

Spend a Day at Lake Balboa Park

Visit Lake Balboa Park near Reseda, Los Angeles

Just a short drive from many of Reseda's condos, you'll find Lake Balboa Park. Lake Balboa/Anthony C. Beilenson Park is part of the larger Sepulveda Basin Sports Complex and is situated between several golf courses.

As its name implies, Lake Balboa is the star of the show. The lake covers 27 of the park's 80 acres, providing opportunities for fishing and non-motorized boating. Park visitors can rent pedal boats, enroll in kayak classes, and operate remote-control boats in a dedicated cove. A 1.3-mile walking and jogging path also circles the lake, while a dedicated bike path crosses other park sections and connects to Sepulveda Basin bike paths.

One unusual feature of the park, which is located along the southern border of the Lake Balboa neighborhood, is its Japanese cherry blossoms. These colorful, picture-perfect trees bloom around the lake's perimeter every year in late March and early April. Another unique amenity at the park is its universally accessible playground. The playground equipment includes traditional swings and slides alongside adaptive versions. For example, every ramp is wide enough to accommodate most wheelchairs, and there are special high-back swings for children who can't sit independently.

Hit the Links at Nearby Golf Courses

Thanks to the great weather and expansive Sepulveda Basin—also home to one of the best dog parks near Reseda—neighborhood residents are spoiled for golf course choices. There are nearly 30 within a short drive! Whether you're an avid golfer, a beginner looking to hone your skills, or someone who plays with friends occasionally, there's a golf course near Reseda that's perfect for you. Here are just a handful of highlights, most of them clustered near one another.

  • Van Nuys Golf Course: This Van Nuys neighborhood club has an 18-hole course and a nine-hole executive course that are both well-lit for nighttime play. Plus, there are practice facilities, a shaded driving range, and a lounge.
  • Woodley Lakes Golf Course: This Los Angeles city-run course primarily caters to beginner and intermediate golfers, thanks to its expansive greens and wide fairways.
  • Balboa Golf Course: Another city-managed golf course, Balboa, is half of the Sepulveda Golf Complex (the other is Encino Golf Course). This course is geared toward more experienced golfers.

Head South to San Vicente Mountain Park

When you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, fortunately, you don't have to venture far from Reseda. Located along the southern border of the Encino neighborhood, San Vicente Mountain Park offers hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, along with scenic views and idyllic spots. This park is part of the Santa Monica Mountain National Recreation Area. During the Cold War, it was a military supersonic anti-aircraft missile launch site, one of 16 throughout Los Angeles.

The former radar tower now functions as a popular elevated viewing platform, offering 360-degree views of the San Fernando Valley and Santa Monica Mountains. To get to the park, you must park near Mulholland Drive and Encino Hills Drive, then walk 0.8 miles. After taking in the views, you can also explore Westridge Canyonback Park, Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park, and the "Big Wild" wilderness areas. Best of all, San Vicente Mountain Park is free, even the parking!

Trek Eastward to World-Famous Griffith Park

Visit Griffith Park near Reseda, Los Angeles

Discover an outdoor paradise at Griffith Park, which is just a short drive from Reseda near two of Los Angeles' best suburbs: Burbank and Glendale. Spanning over 4,300 acres, the park offers activities from hiking to checking out exotic animals at the Los Angeles Zoo to snapping a selfie in front of the Hollywood sign.

Check out the stunning Griffith Observatory and Samuel Oschin Planetarium, where you'll enjoy panoramic views and learn all about the sky. If you want to stick to hiking, you have plenty of options among the park's 53 miles worth of trails. Take advantage of one of the local favorite trails, the verdant green Fern Dell.

Griffith Park offers many more outdoor recreation options, too.
